How to Prepare Rosemary Oil for Hair

How to Prepare Rosemary Oil for Hair

I, a traditional marketer and entrepreneur, have always been intrigued by the impact of natural remedies on our health. And since we talk a lot about hair here, I have a fantastic recipe to share to make rosemary oil at home very easy. In this article, we will explore the benefits, preparation and usage of rosemary oil. So, let's get started!
Choosing the Right Ingredients

So before we start, it is important to consider carefully what ingredients we will be using to make sure our homemade rosemary oil will be of the quality and potency we are looking for. Here are several important points to bear in mind:
Fresh or dried rosemary leaves: These are the heroes of the dish. Choose organic and pesticide-free versions for the best potency. Depending on which is more to your liking, you can either use fresh rosemary sprigs or leaves of dried rosemary.
Carrier oil: A carrier oil is used to dilute the concentrated rosemary essential oil. Common carrier oils are jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. For hair care, I suggest a very light, non-pore clogging carrier oil like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil since you don’t want to weigh your hair down.
Ideally, use all the spices: However, you either halt at the given herbes, and fill it up with any spices you wish to use optional: Additional herbes & spices: For instance, the calming effects of rosemary can be amplified by adding a few sprigs of lavender, and a pinch of cinnamon can promote blood circulation to the scalp.
How to Make Rosemary Infusion

With our ingredients assembled, now we need to make the rosemary infusion:

Method 1: Cold Infusion: For those who prefer a more subtler, gentler approach this is method is your best friend. To prepare it, just add 1/4 cup of dried rosemary leaves (or 1/2 cup of fresh rosemary sprigs) into a clean glass jar. Pour 1 cup of your carrier of choice over the rosemary until they are completely submerged. Tighten the jar, placing it in a cool, dark spot for 2 to 3 weeks. To aid infusion, shake the jar once every day.
Method 2: Hot InfusionHot infusion is the way to go if you're pressed for time or just love a strong infusion. In a small saucepan, combine 1/4 cup of dried rosemary leaves (or 1/2 cup of fresh rosemary sprigs) and 1 cup of carrier oil. Notes: Heat for 2-3 hours on low, stirring occasionally. Strain the mixture and discard the solids.
Strain and Store: After your infusion period is over, strain the mixture into a dark glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Keep your rosemary oil in a cool, dark spot to maintain potency.
How to Use Rosemary Oil You Made at Home

Now that we’ve made our own rosemary oil, the next step is to use all its hair benefits:

Pre-shampoo treatment: Apply a few drops of rosemary oil to your scalp and massage it in 30 minutes prior to washing your hair. It can help improve blood flow, decrease dandruff, and help grow healthy hair.
Hair mask: Combine 1-2 tablespoons of rosemary oil with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey. Slap on the mask and throw on a shower cap for 30 minutes to an hour. Shampoo and condition like normal.
Leave-in conditioner: You can add a few drops of rosemary oil to your leave-in conditioner or hair serum to provide extra nourishment and protection.

Add different ratios of rosemary to carrier oil, or mix in another essential oil such as peppermint or eucalyptus for a unique blend. For a more concentrated move, blend rosemary oil with coconut oil and work into your ends for an extreme hair treatment.
